A real trip to the Seaside!

Image result for beach clipart

Hi everyone,

As part of Biodiversity Fortnight the children will be going on a field trip to Portmarnock Beach on Thursday the 23rd of May. The children will get the chance to look at, identify and handle some of the common sea creatures that they will encounter on the beach and then once we get there they will get to explore it even more!

It would be great if children could wear wellies and if you could all keep an eye on the weather forecast for the day so they're dressed appropriately that would be great. (Sun cream, hat, warm jacket, waterproofs etc - all eventualities!)

Let's hope it's a sunny day!

Thanks all,

Jessica and Maria

At the Seaside Aistear

The children were at the 'Seaside' in Aistear over the last two weeks. They went to the beach, made sandcastles, got ice cream and even went in a boat! They also made beautiful beach art and loved playing with the sand pit and all the sea creatures - bring on the Summer!😃

School Tour

Image result for school tour farm clipart
Hi guys!

We have our school tour organised and we're going to Newbridge Farm and Playground on Friday June the 14th.

The entry fee to Newbridge is €4.50pp and the cost of the bus is €9pp so the overall cost of the tour is €13.50 per person in total.

It would be great if you could send the €13.50 into school in an envelope with your child's name on it.

Thanks!

Jessica and Maria

Weekly Homework 13/05/2019

Hi guys!

Our weekly homework has changed quite a lot for the rest of Term 3. We will explain below how to do everything and of course if there are any questions or issues as always please let us know!

1. Tricky words

We will have 2 tricky words per week. Our tricky words this week are "go" and "no".

2. Oral Language Sheet

We are learning about the Vet in Aistear for the next fortnight. Have a look at the new vocabulary and discuss the contents of the sheet with your child.

3. Readers

Readers will continue as normal. Just a reminder to return the books with the signed reading record so we can see which books your child has completed. If a book is not sent back in with a signed reading record we cannot give your child a new reader.

4. Dictation copy

Here's something new for the children to try! You will see a dictation copy in your child's folder. Each week there will be a daily word list (3 words per day) which your child will write in their copy. When completing dictation, you will read one word three times to your child and they should try to write it themselves by recalling their sounds. This may be tricky to start but we will also be practising this in class as well so don't panic!

5. Planet Maths Workbook

Please complete pages 3 and 4 of the workbook.

Thanks a million guys, on the home stretch now so please keep up the brilliant work until Summer!

Digraph Worksheet

Hi everyone,
We have just been made aware of a couple of mistakes on the digraph worksheet for homework. Sorry about that!
It would be great if you could get your child to write the correct digraph beside the picture so we know they understand the task.
Again, sorry for any confusion caused, the extra Monday off was clearly needed!😄

Weekly Homework 7/05/2019

Hi all,

We hope you enjoyed the long weekend!

Here is our homework for the week:

1. Tricky Word

Our tricky word this week is 'make'.Try to make as many sentences with the word 'make' in it!

2. Oral Language Sheet

Use this week to go through the seaside oral language sheet again, asking questions based on this topic and using as much vocabulary as possible.

3. Digraph Revision Worksheet

We are revising the four digraph sounds this week. These are 'wh', 'th', 'sh' and 'ch'. Digraphs are letter blends that help children with their blending and more fluent reading. Colour the correct sound that matches the picture and colour in the pictures.

4. Readers

The children have new readers in their folders and seem to have done well with the ones from last week. As we are hoping for them to get through as much of the reading list as possible, your child may be jumping levels. This is completely fine and any reading practice is good practice but it is important to sign the reading record once you feel your child is confident with his/her reader and we can give them a new one. If this is after one night, then we can change it no problem and if you feel your child needs to keep the book for the week then again, this is not an issue.

If your child does not have their reader or reading record in by the Friday of each week, we will not change the book as we want to ensure every child brings every book back into school.

As always, any issues or problems with the homework, please let Jessica (belmayneetjessica@gmail.com) or Maria (belmayneetmarial@gmail.com) know and we can adapt and change as necessary.

Welcome back and Weekly Homework 29/04/2019

Welcome back everyone! Hope you all had a great break and are excited for Term 3, we cannot believe how fast this year has flown!

Our homework this week is slightly different to our usual weekly homework.

1. Tricky Word

Our tricky word this week is 'down'.Try to make as many sentences with the word 'down' in it!

2. Oral Language Sheet

This week in Aistear we will be learning about the seaside, so please make sure to go through this oral language worksheet with your child and discuss any new vocabulary.

3. Wh Worksheet

Our new sound this week is the 'wh' sound. Please read and trace the words and colour in the accompanying pictures.

4. Readers

The children will be bringing home different readers in the upcoming weeks, and we will be changing the books regularly. You will find a list in their folder of the books, (some of the book titles may not be on the sheet, in which case just write the title underneath!)

Once you feel your child has read and understood the book (can discuss story, answer questions, recall, etc.) please sign your name beside the title so we know they're ready to be given a new book.

As always, any issues or problems with the homework, please let Jessica (belmayneetjessica@gmail.com) or Maria (belmayneetmarial@gmail.com) know and we can adapt and change as necessary.
