Some photo's from our first Aistear Theme -At Home! The children took on different roles as mammies, daddies, children and babies and worked together to build and create their own homes. The children are all settling in really well and making lots of new friendships!
Hi all, The homework this week will take a different format. When we teach phonics we teach in phases. We have completed phase one which includes the sounds:s, a, t, i, p, n. This week is a review week where we revise the sounds completed in phase one and practice blending. For homework the children have received flashcards with s,a, t, i, p, n. There are different activities for you to do with your child with these flashcards. I have listed them below and their is a sheet in your child's folder that explains the activities. 1. Revise the sounds by asking your child to identify the sound on each flashcard 2. Play a matching game. Turn the cards upside down and the child pulls two cards. They say the letter sounds and if they match they can keep the cards and if not they put them back. The children have played this game in school already so they can teach you how it works! 3. Make words with the cards. Put the cards together to make words e.g s-a-t = sat. The children can say each sound and blend the sounds together to read the word. Try to make as many different words as possible. 4. Use the card as a prompt to find things in the house that begin with s,a, t, i, p, n. As well as the activities above you can revise the sounds with your child by watching the jolly phonics video that is attached in a previous blog post. Homework will return to the previous format next week when we start our next phase of letter sounds! If there are any questions about homework let me or Christine know. Thanks, Sarah
1. Sound and Tricky Word Worksheet - Our new sounds for the week are 'p' and 'n'.
Use this worksheet to practice the songs, rhymes and formations for the different sounds.
2. 'Sounds Like Phonics' - Our sounds this week are 'p' (p. 26, 27) and 'n' (p. 44, 45). Please complete both pages by Friday. The children may find the final activity for each sound difficult as we have not worked on blending yet. If they struggle with this do not worry as we will be covering it later in the year!
Today we learned all about the 'p' sound.
We will be learning the sound 'n' later on in the week.
